In the early 1500s, the Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce de León, sailed north from Puerto Rico, through the Bahamas, looking for new lands and treasures. He had heard rumors of a mythical fountain of youth. The native peoples spoke of a legendary, magical spring whose water was believed to make older people young again.
